IC

NAME: Dan Heng.
AGE: Unknown, young adult. Dan Heng is a "young man", considered an adult by canon standards, but he is a Vidyadhara, a long-lived species that can live to nearly a thousand years old, so he may be anywhere from 20 to 200 or so, though he is likely to be closer to at least a century old, given that he was imprisoned, then on the run for awhile before the beginning of the game.
CANON: Honkai: Star Rail.
CANON POINT: Patch 3.0
CRAU: N/A
OTHER: As Dan Heng is descended from a dragon, and has many draconic features, I headcanon that he has several anatomical differences from a human. Aside from his horns and manifested tail, I also tend to write him with patches of scales on his body, fangs, and a cooler overall body temperature. Also, on the spicy side, he has a more reptilian genital setup, which includes a vent slit through which two cocks can protrude. When he is in his human disguise, however, he has human genitalia. I also headcanon that he is able to breathe underwater, given that the Vidyadhara originate from the deep waters of an ocean world, and they go underwater to reincarnate. Please let me know if you would like me to tweak any of this!

SUITABILITY:

At first glance, one could guess that Dan Heng wouldn't be comfortable at a place like this - and you would be absolutely right. He is a distant young man, aloof and quiet, and likely quite inexperienced, so the initial settling in process will be a little bumpy for him. Having been born in a prison, then spending much of his life on the run, Dan Heng has only recently gotten some time to himself to begin entertaining any sorts of thoughts about romance or sex.

Still, he is a Trailblazer, he's used to hopping between different stars and worlds, and integrating himself with the people there. Explore, understand, establish, and connect - this is the creed of any following the path of the Nameless, and Dan Heng takes these words very seriously. Making connections all across the universe is what the Trailblazers do, and while the sexual aspect of this game might take some getting used to, he is more than ready to follow his creed. Dan Heng isn't used to drawing attention to himself, so it'll take some stumbling before he gains his confidence, but given that he is here regardless and cannot easily return home, he will be willing to engage with the game as a means to return to the Express, as well as to potentially earn a wish.

Overall, Dan Heng will be a bit of an awkward fit at first, but that's the fun of it I think - getting him over his own insecurities and growing his confidence in himself. He'll be hilariously stoic about everything, but he'll do what needs to be done.

HISTORY:

Dan Heng is a Vidyadhara - a species descended from the Aeon of Permanence, the great dragon Long. As such, his people have been blessed by the Aeon with a special sort of immortality. When a Vidyadhara grows old, or suffers grave injury, they are able to return to an egg, where they are reincarnated as a young child again, with no memory of their previous lives (with a few exceptions).

This is how Dan Heng was born. His previous incarnation, Dan Feng, committed a grave sin against the Xianzhou Alliance, attempting to resurrect a close friend with disastrous results. Dan Feng was imprisoned, and made to undergo molting rebirth - a forced reincarnation. This molting was meddled with, however, when the Preceptors used a flawed Exuviation Charm during his rebirth, in an attempt to preserve some of Dan Feng's memories that they wished to have access to. This tampering resulted in Dan Heng, who should have been an entirely new being, but is instead very similar to his predecessor, up to and including possessing many of his memories, however vague and fractured they are. Most of his life was spent locked up in the Shackling Prison, paying the price for Dan Feng's crimes, but he was later released into permanent exile by General Jing Yuan.

After his exile, Dan Heng ran from place to place, his steps constantly dogged by a bloodthirsty man named Blade, a figure from his past who sought revenge for Dan Feng's crimes. Eventually he boarded the Astral Express and became a Nameless, where he traveled to several different worlds in the name of the Trailblaze, to connect planets, and establish contact and foster positive relations across the universe.

He has traveled to many worlds now, including Jarilo-VI, a snowbound planet being ravaged by a Stellaron, and his homeworld, the Xianzhou Luofu, where he helped to solve the Stellaron Crisis, which resulted in his exile being lifted. Most recently he visited Penacony, the planet of festivities, and he has just arrived on a new, hidden world by the name of Amphoreus (and subsequently settled in to helping the people here) right before he arrives in Golden Peacock.

ABILITIES:

Specific details can be found here and here! As an overview, Dan Heng is capable of manipulating water and wind, and he is an expert with a spear. He's highly intelligent and has an analytical mind, so he's very good at organization and data compilation. Also he is capable of using Cloudhymn magic, which has many utilizations, including allowing him to change his physical form into a disguise, and appear invisible through water light refraction. He is also able to summon a water dragon, create tidal waves, and generally manipulate very large amounts of water. As a High Elder, he is also theoretically able to turn into a dragon, but this is something that would greatly exhaust him.

VICES:

Attachment: One of the easiest ways to force Dan Heng into compliance is to prey on his attachments. Though he has only been with the Express for a short time considering his lifespan, the connections that he has made through his time as a Nameless have been incredibly pivotal to his development. Dan Heng is fiercely devoted to his loved ones, willing to put himself in harm's way for them without a second thought, so any threat to the people he cares for would be a simple way to force him to obey. More than once in canon he has behaved very protectively toward his fellow crewmates, snapping like an angry mother bear at the first sign that any of them may be in danger. Though he himself is very resistant to physical and psychological torment, going after others would be a quick way to slice his Achilles' heel.

Reclusive: Though he has opened up in recent times, Dan Heng is a reclusive beast by nature. He prefers the quiet, and keeping to himself, despite how deeply loyal he is to his friends and comrades. A true introvert at heart, his ideal way to spend his time is working on the Astral Express's data banks, so any threat to his quiet, calm little bubble could easily agitate him. Overwhelm him with color and noise and loud, boisterous distractions and he is liable to buckle, and being forced into social situations for too long without a break is a quick way to drive him out of his mind. Threaten him with a good time and he will lose it. In truth, he's grown accustomed to having to be social for long periods of time, due to the nature of Trailblazing, but there is still a very real limit to how much he can stand before he frays.

Fear: Insecurity is one of Dan Heng's greatest enemies. Until recently, he has not been given the opportunity to be himself, to be the person that he wants to be, rather than the person that the world sees when they look upon him. Dan Feng's shadow is incredibly long, having blocked the light from his eyes for many, many years, and though he has done quite a lot of self-reflective work, this is still a very easy weak spot to exploit. Having struggled with identity issues for as long as he can remember, Dan Heng questions himself deep down, sometimes wonders if perhaps they are right, if he is not the independent person that he desires to be, and asserts that he is. We see through canon events, and especially in the animated short Ichor of Two Dragons, that Dan Heng has very much made peace with his past, but all wounds leave scars even when healed, and driving a knife into this particular scar and twisting could easily have him questioning his reality as well as his sense of self, eroding the goodness in his heart.

VIRTUES:

Loyalty: Just as his attachments can be used as an easy way to exploit Dan Heng to misbehave, so can they be used to ensure his goodness. Though he may struggle with bouts of occasional insecurity, his faith in his companions never wavers, and he will do anything and everything for their sake. They are his weakness, but they are also his greatest strength, the voices that he listens most closely to, and the people he would most want to protect. Even were the House to prey on his greatest insecurities, so long as he has close friends and loved ones nearby to offer him a hand, he would be able to pull himself up out of the muck.

Intelligence: Dan Heng possesses an incredible mind. He's wickedly smart and very observant, able to pluck out important information from seemingly average conversations, or notice small details that others may have overlooked. This is one of the things that makes him excel as the Express's Archivist, and keeper of the data banks. The house may have a difficult time challenging or corralling him simply because he would quite possibly find ways to outsmart them, keeping cool and sharp even in the face of the entirely new and frankly embarrassing things he would need to face at the Casino. His companions often look to him for advice, as he is usually the one most level-headed, turning to him when a difficult puzzle wants solving. In many ways he may see the truth of what the House is attempting to force him into, and therefore find ways to prevent them from exploiting his weaknesses.

Bravery: For all of the things that hold him back, all the insecurity that has plagued him as he grew, Dan Heng is exceedingly courageous, even hopelessly brave. This is what makes him an excellent Trailblazer, however, for he does not fear the unknown, nor leaping into strange or dangerous circumstances head first. Though he will be careful in the steps that he takes, in the end he is likely to be entirely unafraid of anything the house may throw at him, and his desire to maintain his Trailblazing spirit is very strong. Even when faced with the idea of leaping directly into a new and unexplored world in recent canon, Dan Heng did not bat an eyelash, even reminding the main playable character that the path of the Nameless is a dangerous one. Safety cannot be guaranteed. Even still, no monster nor threat of death or torment will keep him from blazing his path forward. (Defying Gravity plays in the background).

SUIT REQUESTS:

Hearts: Hearts would be an good fit for Dan Heng, considering how incredibly compassionate he is, this would suit him well. The most interesting aspect to me would be to toy around with the possibility of jealousy and possessiveness, as those are often traits associated with dragons, and I think Dan Heng would struggle with these feelings a great deal. Though he will endeavor not to have his suit activated at all, given how reticent he is, this may not always be feasible, especially during his initial time here. Desire for companionship and yearning will also work well for him, considering he has only recently become comfortable with growing close to people at all, despite having a crushingly lonely upbringing, so I would have an excellent time dealing with him pining for lovers that he does not wish to share. Given how generally cool and collected Dan Heng is when it comes to emotions, I think that struggling with the Hearts suit will prove an interesting challenge both for him to experience, and for me to write.

Spades: Spades does not fit Dan Heng as well as Hearts does on a level of compatibility, however it would give me quite a lot to work with when it comes to his potential suit activation. Dan Heng has a great deal of self-control, he doesn't often give in to his inner voices or desires, so this could be a very fun struggle for him to wrangle with. I would absolutely capitalize on the suit taking advantage of and aggravating his deeper insecurities, of which he has many. Having lived in the long shadow of his previous incarnation for most of his life - and sometimes even currently - Dan Heng has many misgivings about himself, his place in the universe, his responsibility toward Dan Feng's sins, and his overall sense of self. These things could very easily be preyed upon by the Spades suit. The possessive trait also plays into what I mentioned was possible if he were given the Hearts suit, a fun little nod to his draconian instincts.
